We appear starting ~0:55. Sorry, no subtitles. Basically, the story is that France has had fairly restrictive laws regarding DNA kits–not allowed, illegal for people to know their sperm donor–but this is changing partly because there is no way to stop it. They used our family as an example how in the USA where there are no such laws, it’s not a big deal.

Modern Love Updates: Book, Podcast, Best Of!

Aaron’s Modern Love column was selected for the recently published Modern Love book: “Modern Love, True Stories of Love, Loss, and Redemption.”

His piece was also selected for the Modern Love Podcast, with actor Kal Penn (Kumar from Harold and Kumar go to White Castle) reading the essay, followed by an interview with Aaron and Jess about what has happened in the year since the publication of the column.

And finally, Aaron’s column was selected for the Modern Love 15th anniversary “greatest hits” collection published on the NYT website.

Jess, Alice, and Aaron met up in Philly recently for dinner with Kelly and Maryellen from Stage 3 Productions at Giuseppe & Sons. While there haven’t been any recent developments, they haven’t totally given up hope and continue to shop our reality show.

Marcia Jacobs, mother of Emily, who was conceived with Aaron’s sperm, recently wrote this lovely article for ParentMap about her incredible journey as a parent. We recently had a fun dinner at a hibachi place in Tacoma with Marcia and Emily, though Emily was a little tired by the end.

On German TV

A crew from German TV station RTL came to film us a few weeks ago. While we had a fun day, this was the most staged appearance we’ve done. They had me give flowers to Jess, had us hold hands at a restaurant, had us all go rollerblading (for 10 minutes – it was a nice day for winter – we wanted to skate more!), had me look pensively out to sea, etc. I suspect the result is pretty cornball, but my German isn’t so good. They filmed us all day, so we were surprised the piece was so short.

KIRO Radio Interview
