Daily Mail tv was one of the funnest things we’ve done because we got to say “You’re watching Daily Mail tv” in unison. They didn’t use it but I felt like a Disney channel star.

We also got to spend some quality time outside the bedroom door listening to Alice’s interview. She’s getting so amazing at answering the questions she’s heard a few times now, and I’m so proud of her.

This was a really fun process, and I learned a lot along the way about what is very different about my experience from Aaron’s.

A lot of my story happens back in the late 1990s when I didn’t know any lesbian parents. That’s the last time I spent so much time thinking about Aaron and what he was like and what I wanted for my family.

Protecting my kids is still 99% of my love story every single day.

In the original New York Times article, Aaron talks about his (strange?) first impulse after finding out he had sperm kids and that we were all going to meet — he was throwing a “Meet my kids!”-themed party at his building in Seattle.

We have a lot of family collection pictures of this party with a potentially one-of-a-kind theme.

However, we were lucky Aaron had already uploaded all his school photos to Facebook, where it was pretty easy to confirm he was, in fact, our donor.

The “dumb face” I always associate with Aaron and my girls is what I guess is the first grade pic. Luckily the girls grew out of that little nose thing. Aaron did too.

About 6 months into our relationship, Aaron started talking about writing his story for the Modern Love column in the New York Times.

I alternately wanted to read it and did not want to read it, and he assured me I could once it was done and edited.

Then he said I could read it in the paper, assuming they wouldn’t accept it.

Then they called to announce that they wanted to publish it.

It was beautiful all along. Here it is.
