We appear starting ~0:55. Sorry, no subtitles. Basically, the story is that France has had fairly restrictive laws regarding DNA kits--not allowed, illegal for people to know their sperm donor--but this is changing partly because there is no way to stop it. They used our family as an example how in the USA where there are no such laws, it's not a big deal. ...
Modern Love Updates: Book, Podcast, Best Of!
Aaron's Modern Love column was selected for the recently published Modern Love book: "Modern Love, True Stories of Love, Loss, and Redemption." His piece was also selected for the Modern Love Podcast, with actor Kal Penn (Kumar from Harold and Kumar go to White Castle) reading the essay, followed by an interview with Aaron and Jess about what has happened in the year since the publication of the column. And finally, Aaron's column was selected for the Modern Love 15th anniversary ...
Not real yet
Jess, Alice, and Aaron met up in Philly recently for dinner with Kelly and Maryellen from Stage 3 Productions at Giuseppe & Sons. While there haven't been any recent developments, they haven't totally given up hope and continue to shop our reality show. ...
Johns Hopkins Newsletter
Aaron's college newspaper ran a story about him. https://www.jhunewsletter.com/article/2019/04/hopkins-alum-aaron-long-may-have-fathered-as-many-as-67-children ...
Inside Edition Appearance
Another piece where the interviewer did a thorough job of exploring our story for a few hours and then they used two minutes of it to make brief sketch. Still, kinda cute. https://www.insideedition.com/mom-finds-love-her-anonymous-sperm-donor-52599 ...
People Magazine Story
We appeared in the March 18th issue of People Magazine (Luke Perry death on cover)! ...
Centre Daily Time Story – Aaron’s Hometown Paper
I sent the CDT a "news tip" and was pleased they contacted me to do a story. Was fun to think of people I know back home picking up the paper and seeing the story. Centre Daily Times story ...
Marcia’s Story: Love, Loss, Hope, Birth and Crazy Coincidences
Marcia Jacobs, mother of Emily, who was conceived with Aaron's sperm, recently wrote this lovely article for ParentMap about her incredible journey as a parent. We recently had a fun dinner at a hibachi place in Tacoma with Marcia and Emily, though Emily was a little tired by the end. ...
On German TV
A crew from German TV station RTL came to film us a few weeks ago. While we had a fun day, this was the most staged appearance we've done. They had me give flowers to Jess, had us hold hands at a restaurant, had us all go rollerblading (for 10 minutes - it was a nice day for winter - we wanted to skate more!), had me look pensively out to sea, etc. I suspect the result is pretty cornball, but my German isn't so good. They filmed us all day, so we were surprised the piece was so short. ...
KIRO Radio Interview
Rachel Belle had us into the KIRO studio for a taped interview. While we were a bit tired that day and suffering from interview fatigue, she did a nice job of perking us up and telling our story. ...
KIRO 7 TV Feature
First appearance on local TV news. Glad to see a story that focused a bit more on all the kids rather than just on Jess' and my improbable relationship, as fascinating as that is. :-) My biological daughter Emily and her mom Marcia visited for the shoot. ...
On TV in Brazil: Fantastico!
The Brazilian TV show Fantastico visited us at home a few weeks back to tape interviews with us. We had an enjoyable time chatting with the host and, while we aren't 100% sure what they are saying in the segment, we like the look of it. It's been interesting to see the different lighting choices by the tv producers. I like this one best so far. Others have seemed too bright. Watch the Video ...
Daily Mail TV
Daily Mail tv was one of the funnest things we've done because we got to say "You're watching Daily Mail tv" in unison. They didn't use it but I felt like a Disney channel star. We also got to spend some quality time outside the bedroom door listening to Alice's interview. She's getting so amazing at answering the questions she's heard a few times now, and I'm so proud of her. ...
Seattle Times Story
Seattle Times writer Erik Lacitis came to the co-op a couple of weeks ago to chat with us and today the story came out. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/i-met-my-boyfriend-12-years-after-giving-birth-to-his-daughter/ ...
KISS 106.1 FM Appearance on Carla Marie and Anthony Show
On January 11th, the morning after our late night Good Morning Great Britain appearance, Jess, Alice, Madi, and I blearily headed to the KISS FM Studio to appear on the Carla Marie and Anthony Show and had a great time. We are finding that being on the radio is more relaxed and enjoyable than tv: way easier to be ourselves. ...
Good Morning Great Britain – Live!
A live morning broadcast in England meant shooting at nearly midnight in Seattle. We heard the presenters in England through our earpieces and stared at the camera. It was a little nerve-wracking being on live. No second chances. The interview didn't get too in-depth, but the crew and the hosts were very polite. Jess and Madi both had new Instagram followers by the time the broadcast was over. ...
GMA!
Jessica's BBC Article garnered a lot of attention and soon other media outlets came a-calling, including renewed interest from Good Morning America (strangely, the people we talked to seemed to have no knowledge of their previous interactions with us). Arrangements came together quickly and on Sunday night the GMA crew, including correspondent Matt Gutman came to interview us at the co-op in the 2nd floor lounge. Craig from the $40 a Pop documentary came to film behind-the-scenes footage as ...
Jessica’s BBC Article
After Aaron's New York Times article, the BBC invited me (Jessica) to write my story from my point of view. The British are awesome, so I did. This was a really fun process, and I learned a lot along the way about what is very different about my experience from Aaron's. A lot of my story happens back in the late 1990s when I didn't know any lesbian parents. That's the last time I spent so much time thinking about Aaron and what he was like and what I wanted for my family. Protecting ...
Today Show Disappointment
Megan Kelly Firing Scuttles Our Scheduled Appearance After my New York Times article was published, we began to receive a number of press inquiries, including from 20/20, Good Morning America, and the Today Show. Both GMA and the Today Show were only interested in doing a story if they would be the first to air it. We wound up choosing the Today Show because they offered to fly us to New York to appear live on the show, whereas GMA would have only been a pre-recorded ...
Aaron’s Meet My Kids Party
In the original New York Times article, Aaron talks about his (strange?) first impulse after finding out he had sperm kids and that we were all going to meet -- he was throwing a "Meet my kids!"-themed party at his building in Seattle. We have a lot of family collection pictures of this party with a potentially one-of-a-kind theme. Here are some we'd like to share. ...
